Ant-Man Looking Promising Despite Director’s Depature

I’ve been worried about Marvel Studio’s upcoming superhero film Ant-Man (starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas) ever since Edgar Wright left. Having watched the recently released trailer, some of those fears have been quelled. It looks good on a cinematography level, on a design level (the sets and the Ant-Man costume look great), the action scenes look like they have a lot of potential, and the film is aware of its ridiculous concept. I’m actually excited for this film again. I really hope it’s successful. The movie’s title alone makes it a tougher sell than even Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and that had a talking raccoon and a talking tree in it. But if people can embrace some of the sillier aspects of the movie and notice the cool aspects, then maybe Marvel can take another shot at a more maligned character, Howard the Duck (yes, I do want to see that movie happen).
