Looking Back: Wings
With the Oscars coming up, I decided to go back and do a video review for the first Best Picture winner, Wings (1927).

Philomena (2013)
It’s not a good sign when a Best Picture nominee doesn’t leave you with much to say. I saw Philomena (2013) in the small screening room – one way in the back – of one of my local theaters. There weren’t many people there. It wasn’t getting a Best-Picture-nominee-crowd. Maybe it was because I was seeing it in the late afternoon on a Thursday. Maybe the little audience wasn’t some sort of comment on the quality of the movie itself, which doesn’t shy away from the strong emotions of the story, is amiably performed but isn’t all that memorable as a film.
